Power the Polls Celebrates Poll Workers Who Stepped Up to Serve During the 2024 General Election

Power the Polls Thanks Poll Workers, Election Administrators and Partners for Being a Part of Democracy in Action

November 6, 2024, Power the Polls— the first-of-its-kind, nonpartisan initiative to recruit the next generation of poll workers — celebrates a smooth and secure voting season thanks to the dedication of hardworking Americans who served as poll workers this year. Across the country, hundreds of thousands of people served their communities as poll workers, helping make sure voters in every community had the opportunity to make their voices heard.

“Hundreds of thousands of poll workers of all ages, backgrounds, and walks of life came together to make voting smooth and accessible for their neighbors, navigating high voter turnout and other challenges,” said Marta Hanson, National Program Manager for Power the Polls. “The Power the Polls team is eternally grateful to all the poll workers and election administrators nationwide for their hard work to ensure safe and accessible elections. We are also so grateful to our coalition of partners for their recruitment efforts as we continue to build the next generation of poll workers.”

Throughout the 2024 election cycle, Power the Polls supported election administrators in more than 2,000 jurisdictions, monitoring poll worker gaps and meeting staffing needs. These recruitment efforts were supported by Power the Polls’ hundreds of business and nonprofit partners across the country. In particular, Power the Polls and partners worked to meet the growing need for bilingual poll workers and poll workers with basic tech fluency.

To help bolster its mission and reach even more Americans, Power the Polls earlier this year launched its Advisory Council, chaired by actor, producer, director, author and activist Kerry Washington and former Member of Congress Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL). The Advisory Council features a diverse roster of prominent election officials, youth organizers, military veterans, voting champions, media, and community leaders from across the political spectrum.

As a result of these efforts, Power the Polls recently announced the achievement of a major milestone: more than one million total poll worker sign-ups since the initiative’s inception in 2020.
